Overview
Family Based Mental Health provides intensive in-home therapy, case management, and crisis intervention to help parents with children who have mental health issues or are at risk of hospitalization due to mental health symptoms. Co-therapists work with the family to help children remain in their homes, schools, and communities by preventing hospitalization and out-of-home placement.
This service includes assessment and skill-building, including psycho-education for parenting, budgeting, and homemaking.

Frequency & Location of Contacts
Visits occur at least once weekly in the home or community.
Eligibility
Family Based Mental Health is available to adolescents ages birth to 21 years old who have a mental health diagnosis and are at risk of hospitalization, out-of-home placement, or returning to the home from hospitalization or placement.
To qualify for Family Based Mental Health:
- At least one adult caregiver must participate in treatment
- A psychiatrist or licensed psychologist must certify that that is the most appropriate treatment for the child

Family Based Mental Health is a voluntary 8-month program that generally includes 3-5 visits with the family each week. Counselors are on-call 24/7.
Family Based Mental Health is available in Erie, Crawford, Mercer, and Venango Counties.
